On this day…

Special occasions tend to help me organise my memories and associate other memories. It’s because today is my parents’ wedding anniversary that it’s much easier for me to remember exactly where I was in 2010 and 2007.

13 September 2010
Southampton, Bermuda

Golfing in Bermuda We took a family trip to Bermuda to celebrate my parents’ 30th anniversary, and spent our time mesmerised by the perfect beach, laughing and cursing on the golf course, and eating and drinking some excellently indulgent fare.

Aguas Calientes, Peru

Aguas Calientes PeruThe town that’s basically at the foot of Machu Picchu, Aguas Calientes is the stopping point before or after visiting the ancient Inca wonder. These are the hot baths the town is named for (I don’t recommend actually soaking in them).

There were only four people (including my mum and I) on our Gap Adventures trip through Peru, so we got to know each other pretty well. Upon learning that our night in Aguas Calientes was also mum’s anniversary, our other two Irish friends treated her to a bottle of wine at dinner. They also gave her the CD of the Peruvian band that was playing in the restaurant. It’s in her car and she still listens to it, bringing back memories every time.

It’s blurry, but this photo pretty much embodies our memories of the night.

So that’s 13 September 2010 and 2007 for you. It’s nice to be able to relive the memories and remember exactly what I was up to a year and four years (eeesh has it been that long?!) ago today.

…PS 2009 I was trolling around TIFF while back home for a brief pit-stop, and 2008 I was gearing up for a trip to Oktoberfest. Not too shabby, non?!
