I’m not sure if Sally Lightfoot crabs are edible, but I’m certain that you’re not supposed to eat them.
These gorgeously coloured creatures pop up everywhere in the Galapagos, and are distinct by their blue and yellow and orangey-red faces. You can barely get them to hold still long enough to take their close-up, but even when they’re mooning you, they still look divine.
This is a favourite photo of mine, because as I was surveying the pristine view from these black volcanic-y rocks, the bright little crab came to do the same thing. I adore the contrast of the colours and the notion that the crab is surveying its water kingdom…just as I’m surveying it as my lunch…
