I saw this in mosaic tiles in Nice, France, and fell in love with it. It was in the park that’s up high and overlooks the promenade and beach, and is a pretty perfect way to describe how I feel about traveling.
“Heureux qui, comme Ulysse, a fait un beau voyage.”
This translates roughly to:
“Happy is he who, like Ulysses, has made a beautiful voyage.”
Originally the opening line of a classic poem by French poet Joachim du Bellay (1522 – 1560), this line speaks to me because it observes how simple it is to achieve happiness by traveling. There’s nothing purer than the happiness yielded by a beautiful voyage.
